Seth MacFarlane was born as the son of Ann Perry and Ronald Milton MacFarlane, both of whom worked as teachers. He has one sister named Rachael MacFarlane, who is also a voice over artist. Seth developed an interest for drawing and created the drawings of cartoon characters like Fred Flintstone and Woody Woodpecker, when he was still in the early stages of his childhood. Then, when he became eight years old, his comic strip Walter Crouton appeared in The Kent Good Times Dispatch.
Seth graduated high school from Kent School in 1991. He was admonished in public by his headmaster, the Rev. Richardson W. Schell, for his style of humor, which the headmaster termed as "low". Later, the headmaster went on to ask Fox Network to refrain from airing Famiily Guy. This prompted Seth’s parents, who were working at the school, n put in their resignation as a mark of protest.
Kent went on to complete his higher studies at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied animation and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. As a student, Seth aspired to work for The Walt Disney Company, but after he graduated from RISD, he changed his mind about the same. For his thesis at college, Seth created a film named Life of Larry. Then one of his professors at RISD sent his cartoon to Hanna-Barbera, and he was hired by them as an animator.
Seth is still a bachelor who is in search of the right partner, but he often dates various women. He is an atheist and a supporter of gay rights and gay marriage. He also loves golf. He is a great fan of sci-fi shows like Star Wars and Star Trek. He is also a talented pianist and singer and has been trained by an elderly couple who happened to be who Frank Sinatra's vocal coaches. He has also spoken frequently as a guest speaker on college campuses.
Seth had a narrow escape from death in the September 11 terrorist attacks. He was scheduled to return to Los Angeles on American Airlines Flight 11, after delivering a keynote speech at his college in Boston, Massachusetts. However, he missed the flight because his agent had provided him with an incorrect departure time of 8:15 a.m. instead of 7:45 a.m. and also because he was suffering from a hangover resulting from the previous night's celebrations. Later, Seth came to know about the hijacking of flight he was supposed to take, which was then forced to flow into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
Seth is a multi-talented person who has earned a name for himself as an animator, composer, writer, producer, actor, singer, and voice actor. He started his career by working with Hanna-Barbera as an animator and writer for Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoons series. He became the youngest executive producer for television when he was just 24 years old. He has often been condemned by the critics for the blandness of his characters.
Seth has worked as a writer for projects like, The What a Cartoon Show, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, American Dad: The New CIA, American Dad, Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy, Family Guy and many others. He has also produced shows like, The Pitts, The Winner, Family Guy and American Dad etc.
As an actor, Seth has been a part of shows like 3-South, Gilmore Girls, Crank Yankers, Enterprise, Robot Chicken, American Dad and Family Guy to name just a few. His upcoming acting ventures include Flash Forward, which is complete and ready to air, and The Cleveland Show, which is currently being filmed.
Besides working on the small screen, Seth has also made appearances on the big screen in the movies The Life of Larry, Larry & Steve, American Dad: The New CIA, Life is Short and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
In addition to the above Seth has also contributed in the art department of Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo and Dexter’s Laboratory etc. He has also contributed in the soundtrack of Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder and Family Guy.

His list of wins includes two Emmy Awards. The first was in the year 2000 for Outstanding Voice-over Performance, and the second came two years later in 2002 for . Both the Awards were for Family Guy. In addition, he also won an Annie Award in 2006 under the category of Best Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production, for his work in Family Guy.
Towards the end of 2008, Seth McFarlane was named as the smartest guy in the television industry. The title was bestowed on him after he topped a poll conducted to select the 25 most intelligent people in television industry, by the Entertainment Weekly magazine.
Role In Family Guy
In Family Guy, he has lent his voice for Peter Griffin, his infant son Stewie Griffin and the highly anthropomorphized talking dog of the family, Brian. The sheer talent of Seth and his control over his voice has made it possible for him to single handedly portray all the three varying characters in a satisfactory manner. He is able to convince the audience as the voice of the average American father Peter Griffin, who tries to bond with his children. He has also been able to the character of the infant Stewie who despite being a baby, not only possesses an ambiguous sexuality but also plans to kill his mother. The character of the talking dog Brian is no less impressive and has won the hearts of millions of fans of the show.
